Below you can read about the different treatments provided on the Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Unit.
During the unit's opening hours we have an open door policy and you can pop in at any time to speak to the team to discuss any concerns or worries you may have.
This is a cancer treatment which uses medicine to kill cancer cells. There are many different types of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, but they all stop cancer cells reproducing. This prevents them from growing and spreading in the body. Discover more information about the treatments available at Royal Surrey Cancer Centre.
Radiotherapy is a treatment where radiation is used to kill cancer cells. This treatment takes place within our main cancer centre, but you will be welcome to come to the unit before and after. Use this link to read more about radiotherapy treatment at Royal Surrey Cancer Centre.
Being told that you have cancer can be really hard and it can cause lots of different emotions. It is normal to feel anxious and scared. The unit has its very own wellbeing specialist who offers counselling and coaching to help you.
Your diagnosis may affect how you see yourself, your body and your relationship. Our therapist can work with you or with you and your partner to improve your sexual wellbeing.
There are no inpatient beds on the unit and you will most likely be cared for on Onslow Ward, which is the Trust’s dedicated cancer ward. Where possible the team will do their best to provide you with a side room, but this is not always possible. The TYAC team will also come and visit you regularly during your stay.
