Support and wellbeing

Receiving a cancer diagnosis can have a huge impact on you. We understand that you have different and specific needs to children and older adults, and require age appropriate care.

There are a number of ways that we can support you, including:

WhatsApp

After your first appointment the TYAC team will offer to set up a private WhatsApp group with you. This gives you access to the six team members via instant messaging during their working hours (8am – 4pm, Monday to Friday).

The team understands that it is quite normal to feel worried and anxious when dealing with cancer and they will be happy to answer your questions. This can be anything from, when is my next appointment to what you should do if you have a temperature.

Closed Facebook group

The TYAC team will ask if you would like to join their closed patient Facebook group, which is made up of current and past patients. This is a great source of non-judgemental peer support and if you agree to join, the team will introduce you to other like-minded patients or those with a similar diagnosis.

The group is a useful source of advice with information from where you can get the best wigs, to buying travel insurance and coping with the side effects of chemotherapy.

Social events

The team organises a number of social events throughout the year for current and past patients. Past events have included meals out, theatre trips and crazy golf. These events are funded by our charity and offer you the chance to meet other young people living with or beyond cancer.

The team will let you know when the next social is taking place and how you can join.
