Nominated by our patients, these individuals have shown dedication beyond the call of duty and made a significant impact on a patient’s experience with us.
Amy Granville Hamshar, Lead Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialist
Amy was nominated for her calming influence, dedication and immeasurable kindness, which made the world of difference to her patient and their family. Here’s what her patient said about her.
“Amy’s dedication to her role and the kindness she has shown our family throughout my partner’s cancer diagnosis and treatment has made such a difference.
“We are very grateful to have Amy in our lives at what has been the most dreadful time. She has made the process easier for us and less scary. She’s always there to lend a helping hand, a listening ear or to help answer any of the many questions we have. The comfort she has given us has been amazing. She has a real passion for everything she does and no ask is too big. She has been the consistent light through what has been a very dark journey.
“It is hard to put into words why Amy is a star, because it is more to do with how she has made us feel since meeting her on what was a terrifying day last September (2023). We are immeasurably thankful to Amy.”
Mr David Walker, Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon
Mr Walker stood out for his clear communication, compassion, flexibility and his overwhelming desire to be there to support his patient during and after treatment. Here’s what his patient said about him.
“Mr Walker has treated me for a relapse of my head and neck cancer. From the moment he took on my case, his communications have been clear, his approach compassionate and his outlook always supportive and positive.
“During my radical radio and chemo last year, Mr Walker went out of his way to meet with me to discuss symptoms and help customise the associated care around what was the worst two months of my life.
“After a year of recovery, Mr Walker continues to remain engaged and active in my recovery. He adapts his schedule to my needs as much as he can and always communicates in a compassionate and supportive way.
“Mr Walker is a wonderful human being and a brilliant professional.”
Dr Maja Kaladjiska, Internal Medicine Training (IMT) Doctor
Dr Maja Kaladjiska has been nominated not just for her medical expertise and professionalism, but for her kindness, compassion and skill that shone when treating a young patient with autism. Here’s what her patient had to say.
“Dr Maja was incredible. She was so understanding of my son Charlie’s autism and neurodiversity and the critical condition he was in. She showed compassion, understanding and was able to articulate clearly medical procedures as well as looking at alternatives to investigative procedures.
“If it wasn’t for Dr Maja at Ambulatory Emergency Care, my son would not have gone back for his second blood transfusion. She understands his mental needs, is kind and caring and has gone out of her way to aid his recovery.
“Dr Maja is an outstanding doctor. Our family are very grateful to her because she has shown an understanding of the way the autistic brain works and how to administer treatment in a kind and intelligent way.”
