Each of our six clinical divisional champion awards recognise individuals and teams that consistently demonstrate exceptional commitment to patient-centred care, through empathy, communication and respect. They collaborate with colleagues, innovate for improvement and put their patients at the heart of all they do. Here’s what their colleagues wrote about them in the nominations.
Grenda is cheerful, kind and considerate, always approachable and positive. Staff go to her for advice as she has a wealth of transferable skills.
Grenda’s dedication and selflessness to her patients is endless. She spends time, even her days off, talking to her patients living with frailty and their families making sure that they don't lack social interaction as engagement is a significant issue in the community for elderly patients. She engages them in conversations, giving them and their needs her full attention and making them feel like they’re the only patient in the world. She also regularly stays beyond her working hours with patients who live alone while waiting for the ambulance to arrive, making sure they are safe.
Grenda has supported the Hospital at Home service in the best way and proved herself as a great team player supporting staff members with their skills progression. She’s worked above and beyond expectations and makes a positive impact on other teams.
Patients request to see Grenda again and again as she always has such an impact on their lives.
Dr Wood is a fantastic leader of the Hospital at Home team. She started at the Trust shortly after the new service began and has led the team through the challenges of a start-up service with passion, kindness, motivation and encouragement.
As well as allowing patients living with frailty to be cared for in the comfort of their own home, this service has freed up thousands of acute beds throughout the year for patients who need them most. She is an inspiration to everyone and her patient focus and delivery of the best care possible sets an example for all to strive better.
As a consultant, she is incredibly approachable and advocates tirelessly for the clinical service needs while looking out for the team, keeping an eye on working patterns and gently encouraging awareness of overwork and breaks. Helen is probably the most smiling consultant there is, she even bought the team all new matching cups and trays when they moved into their new accommodation at Milford.
Lynn consistently demonstrates the Royal Surrey values and is committed to going the extra mile for her team, striving for excellence and motivating her colleagues to improve.
She is an incredibly positive, professional and hardworking team leader. Her work ethic and dedication to both staff and patients is exemplary. She is always looking for ways of undertaking service improvements to benefit the staff and patients, and involves those around her so they feel part of the change.
Lynn has put processes in place to effectively manage the waiting times to reduce the impact on patients; she’s standardised the induction process to the community team, making sure new starters have a warm welcome and a supportive and organised four-week programme.
She mentors the more junior staff so they can develop in their roles and gain confidence to deliver effective practices.
Lynn inspires those around her to be better, the NHS needs more managers like Lynn.
