Diagnostic and Clinical Support Services Champion

Each of our six clinical divisional champion awards recognise individuals and teams that consistently demonstrate exceptional commitment to patient-centred care, through empathy, communication and respect. They collaborate with colleagues, innovate for improvement and put their patients at the heart of all they do. Here’s what their colleagues wrote about them in the nominations.

Alison Howse, Senior Sister

Alison Howse, Senior Sister

Alison gives 100 per cent and more to make sure that all patients at Cranleigh Hospital have a positive experience.

She is the lynch pin for all the services that work from Cranleigh, and makes sure that care provided is to a high standard and that all clinics are supported and well run.

Alison is the person who brings together colleagues from all professions, ranging from administrators to visiting consultants, physiotherapists and radiographers and many more besides. She also develops a professional relationship with the League of Friends who support Cranleigh Hospital.

She makes sure the site is opened on time and locked at the end of the day, and her commitment ensures the smooth running of the Hospital during the hours in between.

She is one of a kind and an absolute asset to the Trust.

Ashley Prytherch, Photography and Graphics Manager

Ashley Prytherch, Photography and Graphics Manager

Ashley is one of the unsung heroes of Royal Surrey. As a photographer, his part in patient care as well as organisational projects, campaigns and events often goes under the radar, but he plays an integral role.

His clinical photography skills and leadership of the clinical photography team make sure that the service runs smoothly to provide essential support to our clinical teams.

His approach to projects and campaigns makes sure that Royal Surrey’s warm, supportive and welcoming personality comes across in all his photos. He understands that a good picture can help enhance the story being told, making it more engaging and memorable for our audiences.

This year, he’s assisted the creation of a new website for the Cancer Centre by providing a complete suite of pictures which encompass the entire patient journey from diagnostics, through treatment and beyond. The images are thoughtfully shot and showcase the very best of Royal Surrey’s cancer services. Ashley always goes above and beyond to showcase work of our clinical teams and his pictures bring our services and teams to life.

Elizabeth Portsmouth, Pharmacy Technician

Elizabeth Portsmouth, Pharmacy Technician

Elizabeth, 'Lil', is a shining star. She’s so flexible and happy to help with just about anything.

Chilworth Ward could never have imagined the value Lil has brought to the team. She makes sure the medication process is smooth, causing less delays and anxiety to patients. Her enthusiasm and willingness to help out is so appreciated and she makes so much more of a difference than she ever knows.

She undertook a huge review of medications on the ward, which saved tens of thousands of pounds and reduced the amount of medical waste.

Lil has a flexible approach and is happy to help out around the unit. You will often find her covering the reception area when needed and directing patients to the right place for their treatment.

She’s successfully recruited to the pharmacy department; been instrumental in teaching sessions by providing new patients with information on routine medicines given while on anti-cancer treatment and is an amazing colleague to work with. Lil is truly just a wonderful person who is very much a part of the oncology family and it would be lost without her.
