Secondary breast cancer

Patient speaking to radiologist

Appointments

During your initial appointment, you will have the opportunity to meet the consultant oncologist who will be overseeing your treatment, and you will also be introduced to your clinical specialist nurse (CNS). This appointment will be conducted in person, allowing the consultant to gain a better understanding of your individual preferences and needs. It is during this meeting that treatment options for your specific case will be discussed.

Additionally, you will receive contact information for your clinical nurse specialist (CNS). This contact information will be invaluable, as it will serve as your point of reference should you have any questions or concerns in the future.

If you and your healthcare team agree on a particular treatment plan, you may be asked to provide consent by signing a consent form. This ensures that you are fully informed and comfortable with the treatment plan. The consent form does not legally bind you to have any treatment. If at any point you want to withdraw your treatment, you have the option to do so.

As part of your ongoing care, you may have occasional telephone appointments, either with our nurse-led team or a member of your oncology team. We encourage you to bring a support person with you to your appointments, as their presence can be reassuring and helpful.

Following your appointment, you will receive a letter from our team summarising the key points and discussions that took place. This letter will serve as a useful reference for you moving forward.

While it's possible that you may not always have the opportunity to meet with your consultant directly during clinic appointments, please be assured that you will be seen by a knowledgeable and qualified team member. This team member will have already discussed your case with your consultant to ensure that your care is well-coordinated and aligns with the treatment plan recommended by your consultant. Your healthcare team is dedicated to providing you with the best possible care and ensuring that your needs are met throughout your journey.
