The cervix is the opening between the vagina and the womb (uterus). It’s part of the reproductive system and is sometimes called the neck of the womb.
Anyone with a cervix can get cervical cancer which may be caused by The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). It most commonly affects women under the age of 45 years.
Cervical cancer can be detected earlier by attending regular cervical screening at your GP surgery. The HPV vaccine also protects against the type of HPV that causes most cervical cancer.
