Anal cancer

Anal cancer is a cancer that starts in the anus. The anus is part of the large bowel which is part of the digestive system. We do not know the exact causes of anal cancer but there are certain risk factors that can increase your chance of developing it. Most anal cancers are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), a common infection that is passed on through sexual contact.
