About us

The Patient Discharge Lounge is a comfortable area with both beds and chairs for up to twelve patients who are medically fit to leave the hospital. The purpose of the department is to help patient flow through the hospital, freeing up space for new patients to be admitted.

Patients suitable for the Lounge will be transferred there from the ward while they are waiting for final discharge arrangements as medication and transport.

Facilities:

The Patient Discharge Lounge is a comfortable, air-conditioned area with television, radio and reading materials. Refreshments including tea, coffee and biscuits are available as well as snack boxes and hot meals.

It is staffed by registered nurses and healthcare assistants who can continue with any care requirements such as medication administration or hygiene needs.

Medications to take home:

Any medications to take home will be prepared by pharmacy and explained to patients or carers by the nursing staff. Please note that it can take up to several hours for medications to be prepared, checked and dispensed.

Transport:

Patients can be collected directly from the Patient Discharge Lounge. Relatives and carers will be contacted as soon as patients are ready for collection. Please do not travel before this time as there is limited space and you may need to wait up to several hours if arrangements have not been finalised.
