The department is mostly open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm. Occasionally we will open at the weekends.
Our booking team is available Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4.30pm. If you want to make a change to your appointment it is best to call between these times.
If you need to do anything to prepare for your scan you will receive instructions in your appointment letter as well as in your patient information leaflet. Please always read this carefully, as if you do not follow any preparation correctly we may not be able to perform your scan.
You should inform the department straight away if you are either pregnant or breastfeeding/chest feeding as this might result in having to delay/reschedule the scan. In some cases you might be instructed to discard your milk for the next 24 hours after having your injection.
Yes. The radioactive tracer injection will not make you feel sleepy and will not stop you from driving a car. You can eat and drink as usual and continue with normal daily activities after your scan. If you do feel unwell make sure you contact a member of staff while you are in the department.
If you need hospital transport, please call us before you arrange it. Our appointment lengths are different from typical outpatient appointments, so we can give you the timings to book your transport correctly so things run smoothly on the day.
Generally yes, unless your work involves being in close contact with children or pregnant women. In that case you might need to consider taking the day off work as we always advise our patients to avoid prolonged contact with these groups.
You are welcome to bring someone with you, but they might not be allowed in the injection or scan room. Please do not bring children or anybody who is pregnant.
