St Luke’s transformation update

The building contractor has started work on the large extension to Level B of St Luke’s as part of £6.2million plans to expand and modernise our cancer centre.

In recent weeks the steel frame has been erected, which shows the sizeable footprint of the extension that will incorporate a new reception area, large café, 10 person office, waiting area, three additional clinic rooms, and a centrally located phlebotomy space.

The team is on track to have the new addition watertight by later this summer, with the new open planned office spaces expected to be completed in the autumn 2023.

The waiting area, reception area, clinic rooms, phlebotomy space and external landscaping with outdoor seating, garden will follow in early 2024.

2024 will see the construction of a large open plan office including 11 virtual consulting pods

Staff and patients are already taking advantage of the completed elements of the project, including the new Level A reception area, nine new clinic rooms, two consultant hubs, and three new radiotherapy rooms.

Work on the centre began in August 2022 and is expected to finish in May 2024. Once completed it will have doubled the clinical space and created a welcoming, patient-focused space with more facilities and easy access between waiting areas, clinical rooms, and patient services.
