One of our midwives has been shortlisted as a finalist for two categories at the Diabetes Nursing Awards 2024.
Demonstrating outstanding commitment, innovation, and excellence in diabetes care, Diabetes Specialist Midwife Paula Lavandeira-Fernandez beat off tough competition to be named a finalist in the Diabetes Educator of the Year and Secondary Care Nurse of the Year categories.
Organised by leading communications, events and medical education agency Orange Juice Communications, Diabetes Nursing Awards event organiser Emily Mayhew said: "We are thrilled to recognise remarkable individuals who have dedicated themselves to advancing diabetes care and education. Their innovative approaches and tireless efforts have made a significant difference in the lives of people living with diabetes."
Jo Mountjoy, Chief Nurse, commented: “Paula is completely committed to ensuring all women affected by Diabetes during their pregnancy receive the highest possible standard of care. Her strengths lie in her depth of knowledge within the field and her ability to effectively communicate this with the women, their families and the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team.
“She embraces digital technology to support with understanding how this can support ongoing care pathways across in patient and community settings.
“Paula inspires midwives and medical staff across the team in her commitment and drive to ensure women with this condition achieve the best possible outcome in their pregnancy and we are delighted she has been nominated for this award.”
Paula said: “I am over the moon. I can only say that I could not have done it without the support and hard work of my amazing team and managers. I am very proud of being part of this team and Royal Surrey County Hospital."
