Prostate cancer clinicians kick start January with charity appointment

Congratulations to Royal Surrey Consultant Urologist, Wissam Abou-Chedid, and Clinical Nurse Specialist, Maria Innes, who have been appointed to Prostate Cancer UK’s clinical advisory group.

Already working as Champions for this national charity, Wissam and Maria now join an influential group of multidisciplinary experts, advising and informing the charity on delivery of care for prostate cancer patients.

“It’s gratifying to be appointed to the charity’s advisory group,” said Wissam. “Prostate Cancer UK is the biggest prostate cancer charity in the country and we’re proud that we have two clinicians from our trust involved in the group.

“The appointment means that we will be able to influence national policies affecting care for prostate cancer patients. It also gives us the chance to share our own innovative projects with other clinicians in our field and progress new ideas.

“One of the biggest challenges in prostate cancer at the moment is improving earlier diagnosis of the disease. Prostate Cancer UK is a leading charity in the campaign to make screening using a simple PSA blood test more accessible, so this is something we’re very keen to help with.”

Launched in 2022, the charity’s clinical advisory group is made up of clinicians from a range of backgrounds, including nurses, consultant clinical oncologists, radiographers, GPs, consultant urologists and surgeons. The group meets on a quarterly basis and members provide their expertise to help support and advise on strategic plans for the charity.
