Expectant and new mothers in and around Haslemere now have access to ‘outstanding’ maternity services on their doorstep, with the opening of our new Maternity Hub.
The hub, which will be based at Haslemere Community Hospital, gives local women access to Royal Surrey’s Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated ‘outstanding’ services, closer to home.
It will follow the ‘continuity of carer’ model, meaning women will receive support from the same team of midwives throughout their pregnancy journey.
Women who live in Haslemere, Fernhust, Chiddingfold, and the surrounding communities can choose to be referred to the hub saving them travel time and the stress of a journey to Guildford during their pregnancy.
As well as antenatal and postnatal checks the team will also be on hand to provide infant feeding support.
Our maternity unit delivers and cares for around 3,000 babies per year. An exemplar of maternity care, the unit received a UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative Gold Award in May 2022 in recognition of its outstanding work in the support of infant feeding and parent-infant relationships.
Amy Stubbs, Professional Director of Midwifery and Paediatric Nursing, said: “This is the Trust’s sixth maternity hub and we are delighted to be able to offer women in Haslemere care closer to home.
“We know that being pregnant and having a baby is a really big life event and it is natural for women to feel lots of emotions.
“The hubs enable women and their partners to really get to know the midwives who will be caring for them for most of their antenatal and postnatal care.”
