Ian Erridge, Head of Service for Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Care worked for the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) for more than 10 years as an Operating Theatre Technician.
After transferring to civilian life in 1993 and working in retail for 16 years, Ian then refreshed his operating theatre training and joined Royal Surrey.
Describing how the RAMC has shaped his career, Ian said:
“My Armed Forces experience was a big part of my career and has had a huge impact in lots of ways. It teaches you many valuable skills, including self-discipline, communication, motivation, and teamwork, which are really essential to working within the NHS.
“As a veteran with personal insight into how Servicemen and women selflessly dedicate their lives to protect our country and communities, I think it’s important to celebrate Armed Forces Day.
“We have several reservists and members of the Territorial Army working within the Trust and they give up their time to dedicate their services to our community in a variety of roles, as well as working in busy full-time NHS positions.
“Armed Forces Day is a chance to show respect and support for the huge commitment of all those currently serving, as well as their families, ex-Service personnel, veterans, reservists, and cadets.”
