Our Blood Sciences Team is celebrating a double whammy after going live with new equipment to test blood samples and undergoing a successful accreditation inspection just a few days later.
The smooth transition to upgraded state-of-the art analysers for blood samples delivers a number of benefits to the Trust, improving the efficiency of the team’s service. The repertoire of tests carried out in house by the team has been extended and turnaround times for results are quicker.
Laboratory staff using the updated equipment are also enthusiastic about the move as it allows them to build knowledge and expertise and expand their skill sets.
Jamie Clack, Site Lead for Blood Sciences, said: “The rollout of the new equipment for biochemistry and haematology work went very smoothly. We were keen to minimise disruption for the Trust and our feedback was all good.
“As well as being excited about the new equipment, we’re really proud that we coped so well with the transition while also having our annual laboratory inspection just a few days later.”
Haematology laboratories are subject to a stringent inspection process to ensure they meet international quality assurance standards. The inspection process is carried out every year by UK accreditation service (UKAS).
Praising his colleagues, Jamie said: “The UKAS inspectors didn’t have any suggested areas for improvement or questions for us to answer following the inspection, which is very positive. It means there are no particular areas where we need to improve currently, which is an impressive testament to the skills and hard work of the team.”
