She is co-author of the National GIRFT (Getting It Right First Time) Breast Report, which aims to improve care patients across England and National Breast Lead for GIRFT.
“Since joining Royal Surrey in 2008, I’ve worked on many innovative projects and fundraising initiatives aimed at improving services for breast cancer patients. Some of the projects I’ve been involved with include setting up a new oncoplastic clinic for complex revision surgical cases, establishing a regional gene carrier service for breast and ovarian cancer prevention, designing a dedicated breast theatre and organising a fundraising campaign for a new 3D mammogram machine.
“I was the only surgeon in the UK to be awarded the prestigious American College of Surgeons Murray Brennan Scholarship and, as a result, had the opportunity to visit the best cancer centres in the US, which has helped inspire ideas to build on our services here.
“The patients I see are a constant source of motivation, as is the hardworking multidisciplinary team of colleagues who always go the extra mile for their patients. The team puts the patient at the centre of the equation and works hard to do the right thing for each individual’s circumstances. While no patient wants to hear that they have cancer, our team works to ensure the experience is the best it can be in the circumstances. We are dedicated to ensuring patients are getting the best care available.”
