I have been a volunteer at the Royal Surrey for the past 10 years, first as part of the Patient Experience Team and latterly as the lay representative on the Medications Safety Committee. I am keen supporter of the Hospital, in part as recognition of the superb treatment I have received in recent years.
Born and educated in Edinburgh, I left Scotland to pursue a career in High Street retailing. Having worked around the country, my wife and I eventually settled in Haslemere.
I was Managing Director of Mind’s retail division for sixteen years until my retirement. I worked with 1600 volunteers and staff raising much needed funds for England’s leading Mental Health Charity. Upon retiring from Mind, I was a part-time Chief Executive of a local charity based in Bordon.
I am currently Chair of Cards for Good Causes.
I continue to volunteer for local organisations including Haslemere Hall, Friends of Haslemere Hospital and Haslemere Border Athletic Club where, until recently, I was Chairman.
As someone who has been closely involved with volunteering for over 30 years, I believe I can use my knowledge and skill to represent and support the volunteers at the Royal Surrey.
