I am thrilled at being successful in my application to be Nursing and Midwifery Staff Governor. My unique role as Learning Environment Lead Nurse spans across multiple professions and reaches both acute and community settings.
I joined the Royal Surrey as a D Grade Staff Nurse on Elstead Ward (then Breast and Vascular surgery) in 1996. Before Agenda for Change, working through the ranks, I became G Grade Senior Sister in 2000 building my management skills to develop staff to become the very best healthcare providers they could be consistently provide the highest standard of patient care.
After a year’s secondment into the role of Surgical Matron I joined Practice Development in 2009 and have since focused my career in the development of practice, daily networking with staff groups from Band 2s to the Executive Team. My personal ethos maps to the Trusts Mission and Values putting me in a good position, I believe, to connect with and represent Nursing and Midwifery staff across the organisation. As a FtSUp Champion and elected Governor I shall strive to contribute towards the wellbeing of our staff members, the care and experiences of our patients and in turn the success of our Trust.
It is important that the Trust looks after and listens to its staff: valued and educated staff supported to do their job to the best of their ability is essential for efficient effective care of our patients and for the future for the next generation of nurses and midwives - the development of which is the main focus of my current role.
