

Phototherapy is a treatment for skin conditions such as Eczema and Psoriasis. It is a type of light therapy used to treat various skin conditions using ultraviolet light.
There are two main types: UVB and UVA. UVB is the simplest form of Phototherapy; whereas UVA requires you to take a medication (called Psoralens) before each treatment session.
We operate a five-day service with appointments within the following times:
Monday 7am – 11am
Tuesday 7am – 11am
Wednesday 7am – 11am
Thursday 7am – 11am
Friday 7am – 10am
All of our team are chartered and / or state registered physiotherapists or registered nursing staff within the Health and Care Professions Council or Nursing and Midwifery Council.
We may also have qualified physiotherapists or nursing staff who are currently in training for phototherapy in attendance alongside a fully trained member of staff.
We only accept referrals from dermatology consultants directly as per the guidance from the British Association of Dermatology. A dermatology consultant must complete and sign a consent form.
An appointment letter will be out to you once we receive your referral. You may receive a phone call to arrange your appointment

All patients will receive a full initial assessment explaining the process and procedure.
We may require patients to remove appropriate items of clothing to expose all areas of skin condition.
The consultant will be informed of the patients progress during treatment and on discharge if necessary.
Our service is in the Physiotherapy Department, Level B, West Wing, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford, GU2 7XX.

We follow the Trust Access Policy where you may re-arrange 2 appointments, after which a new referral may be required.
