Trust launches ‘souper’ reusable patient feeding pots

Our Trust dished up a new eco-tastic project this week with the launch of reusable patient food pots on Wisley, Elstead, Onslow and Chilworth wards.

The robust dishwasher and microwave safe containers are replacing single use plastic pots for foods such as soup, fruit, cheese and tuna, helping to reduce the Trust’s carbon footprint and reach Net Zero goals.

Thanks to a collaboration between Medirest and FSG Returnables, Royal Surrey is just one of seven hospitals in the country taking part in the innovative patient feeding project introducing reusable food containers.

Emilia Nimmergut, Medirest’s Catering Manager, said: “We are really excited to be trialling the use of these food containers for our patients and we’re hoping that the launch will be a big success. The environmental impact of giving patients single use food pots is obviously huge and we are passionate about tackling this waste.

“Our biggest challenge will be to make sure the pots are returned from the wards after the patients have finished eating, so we want everyone to get on board and help with this. Hopefully we’ll then extend the reusable pots to all wards.”
