One of the county’s biggest free health events saw hundreds of people learn about the latest developments and treatments for tinnitus.
International experts from across the globe addressed the 800-strong crowd during the function hosted by Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, which marked the first day of National Tinnitus Awareness Week 2020.
The seminar, opened by Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Richard Billington, saw visiting professors from the University of Cambridge and University at Buffalo, United States take to the stage at G Live, Guildford, and share their expertise on the condition.
This included: latest research on brain imaging and the use of therapeutic sounds, various types of sound intolerances and hearing loss as well as ear surgery and treatments.
It provided a great opportunity for audiologists, Ear Nose and Throat specialists, audio-vestibular physicians, psychologists, GPs, researchers, other health and social care professionals, as well as members of the public to learn more about the latest developments in assessment and management of tinnitus.
As well as the seminar, guests were also able to browse 16 information stands manned by audiology specialists.
Royal Surrey’s Chief Executive, Louise Stead awarded Dr Hashir Aazh, Audiologist, with a certificate in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in advancement of audiology services at the Trust.
Speaking after the event, Dr Aazh said: “This event provided a fantastic learning opportunity for healthcare professionals and members of public.
“Many patients said that attending this event helped them to feel more confident in managing their tinnitus as they had the opportunity to talk to many individuals with tinnitus, who had successfully completed their treatment.
“They also learned about the large amount of research taking place on tinnitus at local and international levels.”
