Our skilled and amazing Community Midwives are this week’s brilliant Team of the week.
This dedicated workforce includes around 90 midwives, 12 infant feeding support workers and two administrative staff.
The staff work across eight teams, with locations in maternity hubs in Cranleigh, Godalming, Haslemere, Farnham, Hedley and central Guildford.
Exciting plans are also in place to open a new maternity hub in the near future in Woking.
The teams care for between 3,000 to 3,500 women across Surrey and Hampshire. The midwives see women for antenatal appointments throughout their pregnancy from their booking in appointment to up to 28 days after the birth of their baby.
Tanya Ashton, Midwifery Matron, praised all the staff across the teams for their dedication, skill and compassion. She said: “Our teams provide such an essential role for women and their families during an important and emotional time in their lives. They offer valuable support for what is an incredible and very special journey.
“They are all highly skilled, knowledgeable and committed individuals and they work so hard to make sure women are well cared for, listened to, and receive the best advice.
“Each team works super collaboratively and they definitely deserve their official recognition as delivering an ‘outstanding’ service.
“The role is also a rewarding one for staff who build up a rapport with the women they see on a regular basis throughout their pregnancies. They may also be the ones attending the woman during labour, so this role offers a lot of job satisfaction too.”
Feedback from women and their families who come under the care of the Community Midwives is extremely positive. Tanya added: “The option of having antenatal appointments in our maternity hubs brings our care closer to women’s homes, and makes their care easier to access, offering free parking and shorter journeys for check-ups. The bottom line is that we’re really proud of what we do and the service we offer, good job team!”
