A delegation from NHS England visited our hospital this week to find out more about the outstanding care we provide for patients with respiratory issues, such as asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Our Integrated Respiratory Service (IRS) team hosted the visit from NHS England’s Deputy Head of Admitted Pathways and Hospital Transformation along with a senior programme manager. They discussed the unique way in which our service operates, working across both inpatient and community settings.
The visitors spent time looking at how our team identifies inpatients with respiratory problems through an innovative dashboard. They also shadowed colleagues treating patients on the wards and joined a networking event organised by the IRS team.
Sarah Pearce, IRS Clinical Lead Nurse, said: “The team at NHS England has been working with us to explore how we’ve achieved lower than national average readmission rates for patients with COPD.
“They are interested in the unique way that we integrate services across inpatient and community care, and how our integrated respiratory model enables patients to access specialist respiratory care across the whole pathway.
“We are extremely proud of what we’ve built as a team and to be able to share this best practice with colleagues from the national team.”
