Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust has successfully retained its 'Good' rating for its children and young people’s services following a recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.
The inspection, conducted on 3 and 4 June 2024, evaluated a range of services including Hascombe children’s ward, the Special Care Baby Unit, and the Paediatric Emergency Department. The Trust received no recommendations for improvement, marking a significant achievement in light of the current scrutiny surrounding healthcare services. The overall rating for Royal Surrey County Hospital remains ‘Outstanding’ illustrating the Trust's ongoing commitment to high-quality care across all services.
The CQC report highlighted several key strengths within the children and young people’s services, particularly the collaborative approach of staff. The report praised the seamless teamwork, supported by a flexible and encouraging culture, and emphasised the Trust’s strong learning culture. This culture, where incidents are seen as opportunities for improvement rather than moments of blame, was recognised as a vital part of the team’s success.
The report also commended the hospital for strong patient outcomes, progress in reducing waiting times, and improving access to essential services. These achievements are particularly notable considering the increasing demand for mental health services among young people.
Royal Surrey’s Chief Nurse, Jo Mountjoy said: “This outcome highlights the dedication and hard work of staff members, ensuring that high standards of care are maintained across all areas of this service.
“I am very proud of the team and would like to thank them for their commitment to delivering consistently high-quality care to our young patients.”
