Registration success for the first international paediatric nurses

Royal Surrey is delighted to announce that the first group of internationally recruited paediatric nurses has successfully gained their Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration.

The seven nurses, who have joined the Trust from Ghana, Nigeria, and India earlier this year, were celebrated at a special event on Monday 18 November.

Thanks to a change in NMC rules, NHS Trusts can now recruit overseas paediatric nurses, as well as adult nurses, and the group are the first to join Royal Surrey under this initiative.

Ellen Parker, Matron of Hascombe Ward, congratulated the nurses on their success. She said: “We know how hard you’ve worked to gain your registration and how challenging it has been leaving friends and family behind, so we wanted to mark the occasion to show our appreciation.

“We couldn’t be more proud of your brilliant achievement and for us it’s a win, win situation gaining such valuable and experienced team members.”

The newly registered nurses will be working across Hascombe Paediatric Ward and the Paediatric Emergency Department, where they will continue to provide excellent care to young patients at the hospital.
