Raj Lahiri, Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Registrar at Royal Surrey, has been awarded the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery ‘Trainee of the Year Award’ for his brilliant work throughout the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Raj worked efficiently to devise and deliver a rota of doctors to provide care for both emergency and cancer patients across multiple sites, while remaining in bubbles. He was always on hand to answer questions from colleagues and devised innovative solutions to all sorts of problems.
Lucy Hetherington, Associate Director of Operations for Surgery, said: “Without him our cancer performance and work with the Nuffield hospital for General Surgery would have been nowhere near as efficient or successful. Throughout it all I never saw him without a smile on his face - even behind a mask!”
Andy Currie, Upper GI and and Bariatric Surgery Specality Registrar, was also up for nomination!
Well done both.
