Five members of staff, who have each devoted more than 25 years to working at our community hospitals, were invited to a surprise Long Service Awards event at Milford Hospital last month.
Jane Howard, Sheila Key, Jenny Watts, Maureen Keenan and Nicky Skinner each received a certificate and beautiful pen in recognition of their dedication and hard work.
Sheila, aged 64, said: “I was overjoyed to be invited to receive the certificate and gift for my service to the Trust. It was a complete surprise but such a nice gesture.
“I’ve worked for the Trust’s community hospitals for 28 years, but been 36 years in the NHS. I started out as a ‘housekeeper’ in Rotherham District General Hospital and was encouraged to become an auxiliary nurse by the Sister on the ward where I worked.
“I definitely want to keep working as long as I can and I really enjoy my job in Haslemere. I feel very lucky to work in such a friendly place. Everyone is fantastic and there’s a really nice atmosphere. I work with a wonderful team of people.”
The presentation was attended by Tom White, Director of HR, Annette Coote, Community Divisional Head of Nursing, and Jacqui Tingle, Director of Infection Prevention and Control. Sue Sjuve, Chair and Jo Mountjoy, Chief Nurse joined via a remote link.
Tom said: “It was a privilege to attend this event and spend time with staff who have committed so much of their working lives to our community hospitals. The dedication of these staff is truly inspiring and their sense of their pride in supporting patients and the local community is impressive.
“I also found it fascinating to hear about the history of the hospitals and how roles in healthcare have changed over the years.”
After receiving their awards, the famous five enjoyed a tasty breakfast of bacon rolls, cookies, cakes and hot drinks.
