Congratulations to Oncology Dietetic Assistant Claire Abbott who was nominated for a National Allied Health Professional (AHP) Support Worker award in the category of ‘Supporting Our People’. Claire was one of 56 support workers shortlisted from 464 entries across the country.
This award recognises staff who have made outstanding contributions to person-centred care, demonstrating respect, kindness and compassion. Since joining the Trust five years ago, Claire has become an invaluable asset to her team and fully embodies the qualities sought by the award.
In 2019, she took the initiative to train as a counsellor in her spare time. In doing so, she has been able to offer additional valuable support and care for patients and their families as well as colleagues.
Praising Claire’s achievements, the Health Education England AHP judges said: “It was a wonderfully humbling experience to read the amazing work you do. The impact you make for your patients is phenomenal, especially at such a challenging time for them and their families as they receive cancer treatment. You clearly make just as much difference to your team and their wellbeing - if only we all had a Claire!”
Lindsey Allan, Oncology Dietitian and Team Lead added: “We’re so proud of Claire’s nomination and although she didn’t win at the awards ceremony, she is definitely a winner in the eyes of the whole Dietetics Department. Well done Claire.”
