We are holding a free health event for people to learn more about audiology and tinnitus.
We hold a variety of health events throughout the year to highlight the important work of different departments and allow people to learn more about them. Audiology is the focus of the next health event and professionals from within the Trust, the University of Cambridge, and even Florida Atlantic University, USA, as well as more have come together to provide information and education to those who attend.
Tinnitus is the perception of noise or ringing in the ears is affects about 10-15% of adults and 1 in 5 teenagers. There is no cure for tinnitus at the moment, but there are a number of treatments to help people manage the condition.
The event will begin at 2.30pm with an exhibition on various audiology topics, before doors open at 3.50pm for talks. These will range from ‘The use of therapeutic sounds to alleviate tinnitus’, to ‘Human brain imaging and animal models of tinnitus, hyperacusis and hearing loss’ and ‘Advances in hearing aids’. There will also be a chance for questions at the end.
Dr Hashir Aazh, Tinnitus Team-lead said, “We are proud to bring people the this free health event on tinnitus. This event is an opportunity for people to learn more about the work audiologists do, but specifically around tinnitus and hearing loss.
We have some amazing speakers sharing their professional knowledge and we are also glad to be joined by the Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Richard Billington who will be formally opening the seminar.
It’s sure to be a fun and interesting event so I hope as many people as possible can come along.”
This event will be held on Monday 3 February 2020, in the G Live Theatre between 2.30pm-8pm. It is free to attend and tickets can be booked through the G Live website: https://glive.co.uk/Online/tickets-royal-surrey-nhs-guildford-2020.
