Qualifications: Benedictine University - BS, University of Surrey MSc and University College London Hospital, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and University of Ioannina, MD and, PhD

Dr Koliou has read Medicine at the University of Ioannina Greece from which he graduated in 2009. He holds a degree in Biochemistry from Benedictine University, USA with honours in 2000, and a Master’s degree in Clinical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Surrey in 2002.

He is passionate about research and personal development and after extensive research for breast and colon cancers with a focus on angiogenesis in 2016 Dr Koliou was awarded his PhD in Medical Oncology with First Class Honours

 

Dr Koliou is a Consultant Medical Oncologist specialising in Breast Cancer. 

His field of expertise in Breast Cancer focuses in decision-making and treatment delivery of neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy, assessment of tumour molecular profiling results, and management of complex patients on adjuvant hormonal treatment and other targeted drugs. 

He has experience in the management of patients with metastatic breast cancer, prescription of chemotherapy, targeted drugs, antibody-drug conjugates and immunotherapy for managing such complicated diseases. 

The other area of his expertise is Melanoma and advanced skin cancers and is particularly interested in the treatment of these cancers with immunotherapy and targeted treatments. Dr Koliou treats patients in the adjuvant setting to prevent metastatic recurrences and also metastatic patients to improve their quality of life, and control disease. His focus with such complicated treatments is the robust management of the multiple toxicities to get the best outcomes for my patients.  

Dr Koliou joined the Royal Surrey Hospital in 2019 as a Breast, Melanoma and AOS Locum Consultant Medical Oncologist. In September 2020 he was appointed as substantive Consultant Medical Oncologist for Breast Cancer and Melanoma. In October 2023 his main focus has been in clinical practice is Breast cancer.

Dr Koliou is the Lead of the Breast Oncology Service and Clinical Research at Royal Surrey and also has clinics at Frimley Park Hospital. His main interests in practice are innovative treatments and clinical trials. He is also a principal investigator in many active recruiting phase III clinical trials for both breast cancer and melanoma and many others as sub-investigator.
