Professor Rockall is a Consultant Surgeon at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust and Professor of Surgery at Surrey University, and Director of the Minimal Access Therapy Unit (mattu) in Guildford since 2003.
The mattu is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and also has a research portfolio including: Minimally Invasive Surgery, Surgical Technology, Bowel Cancer Screening, Enhanced Recovery After Surgery, Perioperative care and Cancer.
He specialises in laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery and has a particular interest and expertise in the practice and teaching of laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
He was previously Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, London in the department of Surgical Technology and Oncology and Honorary Consultant at St. Mary's Hospital London.
He is past President of The Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland and is currently a member of Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is Chairman of the RCSE Research Committee and Chairman of the RCSE Invited Review Mechanism.
