

Consultant Intensivist & Anaesthetist
Qualifications: MBBS FRCA FFICM
Dr Patel qualified from St. George’s Hospital Medical School (London) in 1998 with distinction and numerous undergraduate prizes. He undertook specialist training in Anaesthesia within the South London St. George’s training scheme and in addition undertook a Cardiac Anaesthesia Fellowship at the Royal Brompton Hospital as well as 3 years working with Healix International Aeromedical repatriation services where he gained extensive experience in Aeromedical Transfer Medicine.
His Intensive Care Medicine training commenced in Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge and progressed to the pan London scheme, where he trained at The Hammersmith Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital and St. George’s Hospital.
Dr Patel has been a dual accredited Consultant Intensivist and Anaesthetist since 2008. He is heavily involved in teaching and training of Junior Doctors and has been the Faculty Tutor for Intensive Care Medicine at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust since 2011 and ICU Simulation Co-Lead since 2022.
The Royal College of Anaesthetists (London) appointed Dr Patel as an examiner for the FRCA examination in 2013 and he has completed 10 years as an examiner. From 2015 to 2023 he was the Clinical Director of Intensive Care Medicine at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. Outside of work, Dr Patel enjoys spending time with his family, running, cycling and tennis.
