Dr Mathew completed medical studies at Guy’s King’s and St Thomas’ in 2004, with medical, surgical and ITU attachments completed between London and Oxford, before entering Gastroenterology and Endoscopic training in 2009 in the London Deanery.
He undertook basic science research into hepato-pancreatic biliary (HPB) diseases between the Royal Free and Hammersmith Hospitals, before moving to complete his PhD at the University of Surrey.
He entered national sub-speciality training in hepatology in 2015, with transplant, general and ICU-hepatology training between King’s College London and St Mary’s hospitals (Imperial), with further ICU and transplant work, as well as Gastroenterology and IBD at King’s College in London, before moving to the Royal Surrey.
Dr Mathew runs upper and lower GI endoscopic studies, and is part of the 24/7 GI bleed service, including managing urgent portal hypertensive bleeds; and along with his hepatology colleagues is part of the core HPB and Hepatology regional MDT (multidisciplinary team), including in the management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
