Dr Katie Blightman qualified from Manchester University in 2001. She undertook her Anaesthetic training in London and Surrey rotating through specialist hospitals including Royal Marsden, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Harefield. She completed Fellowships in Obstetric Anaesthesia and Liver Transplant Surgery.  

Dr Blightman was appointed as a Consultant Anaesthetist in 2015 at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. She has been Trust Mortality Lead since 2019 implementing the Learning from Deaths programme and Medical Examiner Service. Other governance roles throughout the hospital include Chair of the Hospital Safe Sedation Committee, Chair of the Patient Blood Management Group and Clinical Lead for Pre-operative Anaemia.  

Dr Blightman is also qualified in Medical Law and has a strong interest in consent, confidentiality and professional practice.
