Dr. Alexakis obtained his medical degree at Imperial College London, and after qualifying in 2005 completed his junior doctor training at various District General Hospitals in and around the capital. In 2009, he started specialist training in gastroenterology, achieving CCT in 2019 and soon after was made a substantive consultant at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr. Alexakis has a subspecialty interest in inflammatory bowel disease and nutrition medicine, and completed a research MD in these topics at St George's University during his training years. Dr. Alexakis’ endoscopic practice reflects these interests, in particular lower GI investigation in patients with colitis, and nutritional endoscopy including short and long-term feeding tube insertion. DR. Alexakis also serves on the acute GI haemorrhage rota.
