Professor Adam Frampton is a Consultant General and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgeon. He specialises in complex gallstone disease, liver, pancreatic, and biliary surgery. He has a specialist interest in investigating and treating all benign and cancerous disorders of the liver, pancreas, and biliary-tract. He also does elective, and emergency general surgery.
After qualifying from Imperial College London in 2003, he went on to gain an MSc in General Surgical Practice from the University of Kent in 2011, before returning to Imperial College London, where he was awarded a PhD in 2014 for his work on complex gene interactions in pancreatic cancer.
He underwent basic and higher surgical training in London and Surrey, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. During his training he undertook several international observerships in both the USA and Europe, and has gained exceptional experience in his field.
Professor Frampton is extremely passionate about research, and aims to translate new discoveries directly into improved patient care. He has won numerous awards for his research including the Moynihan prize, the Sir James Fraser Travelling Fellowship, and the Hunterian Professorship (2018) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He currently serves as tenured Assoc. Professor in Surgical Oncology & Head of Oncology at the University of Surrey (appointed May 2023).
His current translational cancer research includes investigating the molecular aspects of pancreatic, liver and biliary-tract cancers, including the development of clinically useful biomarkers and targeted anti-cancer treatments, and understanding the tumour microenvironment and mechanisms of metastasis (cancer spread), topics on which he regularly publishes his findings in peer-reviewed journals. He supervises many under-graduate (BSc), and post-graduate students (MSc, MD Res, and PhD) at the University of Surrey. He is also Surgical Tutor for the Foundation Year 1 doctors at the Royal Surrey.
Professor Frampton’s research is at the “cutting-edge” and consequently he offers a highly analytical and evidence-based approach for his patients.
