Clinical Measurements

The Clinical Measurements department performs respiratory and cardiology diagnostic investigations and monitoring on both inpatients and outpatients who are suspected to have either a cardio or respiratory condition. The service also provides long-term follow-up care for patients implanted with cardiac devices such as pacemakers or defibrillators.

Investigations are performed by highly trained physiologists, who are part of our group of healthcare scientist professionals.

Investigations into heart and respiratory function include:

  • 12-lead electrocardiograms (ECG) to capture electrical activity of the heart.
  • Ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitoring.
  • Exercise tolerance testing (ETT) to test the electrical activity of the heart under physiological stress.
  • Full-lung function testing and reversibility.
  • In-clinic follow-up of implanted cardiac devices ranging from loop recorders to implantable cardiac defibrillators.
  • Remote monitoring of cardiac implanted devices.

People who are referred to the service with suspected heart or lung conditions.

We take referrals from GPs and clinicians within Royal Surrey and as well carrying out investigations on behalf of the DVLA.

We are located on Level B, West Wing, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford.

Hospital Switchboard: 01483 571122 (ext 4686/3049)

The service is available Monday to Friday 7.30am – 16.30pm.
