 Royal Surrey Charity’s sponsored walk,  Stride for Cancer Care , returns this year on Sunday 6 October, and we hope you will join us there for a fun, family day out. 

 

 

It’s been the perfect day: great weather, great walk…I’ve enjoyed meeting people along the way. And there’s some food at the end, so that’s precious. I like the down bits more than the up bits, I have to admit!

Phil completed the 25K route in memory of his Dad, Eddie.

 

Our charity is pleased to offer you and your loved ones a special 50% discount off the registration fee (usually £20), which includes a charity t-shirt and finisher’s medal (see below for details).

Sponsored by CBRE, the walk, which starts and finishes at Surrey Sports Park – opposite the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford – is raising vital funds to support world class care at Royal Surrey Cancer Centre (formerly St Luke’s).

Registration for the walk is now live, and offers a choice of distances (5km, 10km, 15km or 25km) – the 5km shorter route is accessible and wheelchair and buggy-friendly. As well as the stunning views and the chance to catch up with friends and family, you’ll enjoy a warm up before you start, a chance to grab a selfie under the balloon arch with your medal, food and drink along the way, and access to our wellbeing village.

Helen Bullen and Eddie Sinden, 55 and 61 from Fetcham in Surrey, took part in Stride for Cancer Care to support our dedicated charity, after both receiving exceptional cancer care.

 

Helen said:

“We wanted to raise money for the cancer centre because we have both been there – me, when I was diagnosed with stage 3 triple negative breast cancer in 2021 and Eddie, in 1989 when he was treated for testicular cancer. The walk was quite hilly, but we managed it and it was fun.

Helen added: “It’s important to support NHS charities, like Royal Surrey Charity, because you just never know. We never thought we’d get cancer. We are so grateful and it feels good to have done something for someone else going through it now.”

Money raised from events like this makes a huge difference to people living with cancer.

As well as providing vital equipment, our Cancer Centre Fund supports the redevelopment and refurbishment of wards to ensure the environment is welcoming and comfortable for you and your loved ones, and funds groundbreaking research to support the future of cancer care. Importantly, it helps look after our incredible and dedicated NHS staff, who take such good care of us, by investing in wellbeing and development opportunities.
