Mobile Chemotherapy Unit

As part of initiative to deliver treatment closer to home we have a mobile chemotherapy unit. The purpose built unit is part of a collaboration between our cancer centre, EMS and Lloyds Pharmacy Clinical Homecare. It moves between sites in Woking, Surrey, and Horsham, West Sussex.

The air-conditioned, spacious unit has five treatment chairs, and is staffed by a team of experienced oncology professionals who work between Royal Surrey Cancer Centre and the mobile unit. Up to 60 patients per week currently receive chemotherapy and immunotherapy onboard.

The aim of this service, is to ease the burden of travelling to the hospital, particularly for those patients receiving treatment for a long period of time and requiring multiple visits, as some of our patients travel considerable distances to receive treatment.

One user said: “Compared to being in hospital, it feels mentally so much lighter.”

The care and treatment you receive on the mobile unit will be exactly the same as what you would receive if you came to Chilworth Day Unit. Currently, not all our treatments are available on the mobile unit but if this is something you are interested in, do speak to your clinical team or clinical nurse specialist to see if we can deliver your treatment there.

The unit is open from 7.30am to 6pm.

It visits:

  • Morrisons car park in Woking on a Thursday
  • The sports club adjacent to Tesco in Horsham on Wednesdays and Fridays

Patients are able to park free of charge next to the unit in both locations.
