Hundreds join parkrun for the NHS

Around 400 Guildford runners celebrated the NHS’s 75th Birthday last Saturday at Stoke Park parkrun. Regulars, many dressed in NHS blue, were joined by Royal Surrey colleagues, patients and their family members to mark this major milestone.

Running the 5k race were colleagues from the Cedar Centre, operating theatres, governance, ENT, communications, the National Institute for Health and Care Research, our lead Governor and even our website suppliers VerseOne, to name a few!

A number of patients and their families also came to show their support for our Trust. Among them was Tony McGovern, who had surgery for bowel cancer at Royal Surrey two years ago. He said:

parkrun photos“I’ve attended more than 250 parkruns and regularly run them with my wife and my dog. After I had bowel cancer, getting back to do a parkrun was a massive part of my recovery, so it was important for me and my wife to attend today’s event for the NHS.”
