“March 2022 will mark my first year of volunteering as a Governor, something I decided to do having been a patient myself since April 2015.
“I have received lifesaving care from Royal Surrey, including the team from St Luke’s, on more than one occasion. I now want to do everything I can to help shape similar experiences for future patients and their families. To be involved in this way is a privilege.
“As a Governor I help feed back on services, adding patient experiences to discussions and decision making. This ensures the needs and views of Trust members and patients are represented, holding the board who run services to account. I regard this as important and an invaluable part of my life’s experiences.
“I still receive follow-up care from the Teenage and Young Adult Cancer team from St Luke’s. This is clinical care as well as the emotional support for me and my family too. I remember when I was an inpatient on the Onslow Ward, the care has always been amazing, as is the fact they kept going during the pandemic. The St Luke’s staff deserve an extra special thank you for everything they do.”
