Meet our Birth & Beyond team

All of our classes, courses and workshops are developed and led by registered Royal Surrey specialist midwives.

Our team are experienced, clinical midwives who specialise in antenatal and postnatal education. They are required to continually demonstrate safe, competent clinical practice and professional development to maintain their Nursing and Midwifery Council registration. By attending our classes, you are assured continuity of care and confidence that our content is evidence based and up to date, to empower you through your parenting journey.

Kate Conway Matron I firmly believe that every person using maternity services, should have access to high quality, evidenced based education whatever their budget. Attending any Birth & Beyond course will empower parents-to-be to understand their bodies, minds and choices for their pregnancy and postnatal care. Positive birth experiences come from having realistic expectations of every step of the parenting journey. Guided by our specialist midwives, we can answer every question and discuss every possible scenario you can think of, so you leave feeling relaxed and excited for experiencing birth and beyond

Kate has over 20 years experience as a nurse and a midwife and now leads the Antenatal and Gynaecology Services at Royal Surrey. She has worked with Claire Barraud since the inception of Birth & Beyond, growing it into the service you see today.

Claire specialist education midwife My role is to help women and families positively prepare for their pregnancy, birth and early days with their new arrival. My hope is that our parents to be, leave our classes informed and empowered, with realistic expectations and the knowledge that there is no right or wrong way to birth their babies. I want birth partners to leave knowing how they can support and assist during the process and for our families to know where to get accurate and evidence-based information to help them make informed decisions. I am so proud of the years I worked in our unit, supporting families and seeing new life coming into this world is truly wonderful.

Claire has been a Royal Surrey maternity unit midwife since 2005 and founded Birth and Beyond so that women could access accurate, midwife led education. As well as providing the Birth & Beyond Complimentary classes, Claire runs antenatal clinics to help families who may be fearful of birth and our listening service to help families understand their birth experiences.
